Duke Davis - Singer/Songwriter - Musician - Poet - Producer: Duke Davis was raised in the hill country of Schertz, Texas, 25 miles northeast of San Antonio, and has been around the cowboy lifestyle his whole life. Since 1965, he has been a professional musician and songwriter, and has appeared in concert with many of the top names in the music business. Duke moved to California in 1979, where he assembled his award winning band, "Buckshot", one of the finest western bands in the country. In 1994, he moved outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico to pursue his first love of horse training and was the owner/operator of the High Mesa Horse Ranch in Lamy, New Mexico. In 2002, he sold the ranch and moved to Colorado, where he still trains and brokers horses as the owner/operator of the Osita Ranch near Guffey, Colorado.
Duke's rugged cowboy image and horsemanship skills gave him the opportunity to work as an actor, mostly doing 'hard riding' in television, western films and commercials. His eight albums ("Time To Ride"; "All Points West"; "Chase The Wind"; "Follow The Wagon"; "Blue Texas Sky"; "Legacy"; "Bunkhouse Ballads"; and "Borderlines") have all received international acclaim and recognition. His dedication to the preservation of the working cowboy has driven him to portray the cowboy ideals in his art, and when he is not performing his music and poetry, or producing other artists, he often can be found 'day working' on ranches all over the West.
Duke, who is a true 'Renaissance man', has been featured at virtually every major cowboy gathering and western festival in the country, and has performed in Canada, France, Holland, England and Switzerland. He and his wife, Ruthie, run Rockin' Double "D" Productions, which started out as an independent record label in 1983 producing alternative western music. To date, Duke has produced over 220 records, many by some of the top cowboy artists in western music today. His production company produces rodeos, festivals and WESTERN FANDANGO package shows that supply events with cowboy entertainment and chuck wagon cooking. He currently tours the United States with his band presenting "Westward Ho!" a theatrical production of the history of cowboy music. Duke serves as an advisor for many of the cowboy events throughout the West, as well.
Duke Davis has won numerous awards and nominations from the California Country Music Association; Country Music Associations of America; Academy of Western Artists; Western Music Association; Music Industry Coalition, and was selected as the Official Cowboy Poet Laureate of Santa Clarita, California in 1993. In August of 2005, Duke charted the #1 Song in Western Swing Music with "Texas Moon", from his "Blue Texas Sky" album. Even with his busy touring schedule and horse business, he still devotes much of his time to educational youth programs through the schools and church events.
The talents of Duke Davis have taken him all over the world and garnered many accolades for him, but he politely says, "I'm the happiest when I'm just forkin' a good horse and chewin' the fat with a friend!"
