It is 11:02 pm, and I should be sleeping, of course I can't seem to get there. Did you ever have one of those nights when your mind just kept thinking? So what's rolling around the ole noggin? Horses of course.
Everything is changing in this country and it's happening really fast. So, I'm wandering, what does the future hold for the equine person? Our society or at least a part of it doesn't seem to be very open to the idea of one owning and riding horses anymore. They for what ever reason think it is wrong, they say the horse has...well... rights, animal rights. Now I know, as well as all of you, we have a responsibility to take care of our horses, good feed, shelter, grooming and so on, and this is something we do not take lightly. So what is it that makes these people want to take away our...well...right...people rights, to own and care for a horse? What will they gain? How will it make this world a better place for all of us to not own a horse?
No better way to understand why than to visit the place where ownership of horses is no longer allowed, hypothetically of course, well at least for the time being. Now right off the bat I am wondering what will happen to the horses we all currently own? Where will they go? Will anyone take care of them or will they need to just return back into the wild? Can our horses just return to the wild, I mean there is already an issue with the over abundance of feral horses plus now the added issue of the greatly increasing number of abandoned horses.
Each year the BLM has wild horse adoptions so as to manage the wild horse population to keep nature, well balanced. Simply put the wild horse population needs to be decreased. This of course is for the good of the land as well as the horse. These amazing horses are adopted out to loving families and in short time an awesome trusting bond builds between human and equine and what an amazing experience this is.
I must not forget though I am in the place where “ownership of horses is no longer allowed"...ok, so we must scratch the BLM thing, we can't do that anymore. So maybe our horses will be rounded up and placed in a particular area of the country, an area just for the horse, it will be horse country and the horses will just graze and smile and be happy. Maybe horse people will be able to buy a ticket (with applicable tax included of course) that will gain us access to a particular spot at the big fence that surrounds horse country and we can enjoy watching the horse that was once our companion, or compadre, we can reminisce about the days of old when we ... Times up, everyone please exit to your left.......
…To be continued…
