Just a thought...

We closed down all the slaughter houses in the US and now we have abandoned horses all over the place. You know if the slaughter houses are allowed in the US at least we can then regulate them and reduced the abandonment of the unwanted horse.

Another question that crosses my mind, should we continue to breed and if so is it really the responsible way to go at a time of this over abundance of unwanted horses......

Below are some comments from our recent poll on our SCRanch website;

I think horse slaughter needs to be allowed in this country with strict measures in place to insure humane treatment up to and at the time of slaughter.

Horse slaughter should be allowed for "unwanted horses" inasmuch as slaughter should be allowed for "unwanted" dogs, cats and other pets who are also filling rescues or being "set free" on the ecology.

The horse slaughter situation is not a pleasant thing for anyone involved. We, as horse owners, have broken hearts as our beloved friends get older; but sometimes the most humane thing an owner can do is put a hurting horse out of their misery. People don't understand that there is things worse than death and having no place to go with our hurting horse is one of them.
