The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has confirmed another BSE-positive cow has been found. This one was a six-year-old dairy cow in Alberta. The animal’s birth farm has been identified and an investigation is underway. No part of the carcass entered the human or animal food chain.
This is the 17th BSE-positive animal found in Canada and the 10th born after the ruminant-to-ruminant feed ban was put in place in 2002. CFIA says the animal was discovered by the national BSE surveillance program and should not affect Canada’s cattle or beef export status as a “Controlled Risk” country.
